Jets drop overtime heartbreaker Sunday, suffer weekend sweep to Pittsburgh

FRASER, Mich. – Justin Bioni’s power-play goal at 2:59 of overtime lifted the Pittsburgh Vengeance to a 4-3 win and weekend sweep over the Metro Jets at Fraser Hockeyland.

James Unger had tied the game for Pittsburgh at 17:59 of the third period after Connor Inger put the Jets up 3-2 at 19:32 of the second period.

“This was a tough one, but definitely a better game than last night,” said Jets coach-GM Justin Quenneville. “Naturally, (Pittsburgh) was going to have more confidence and more energy heading into today after the way we played last night, giving them a little bit more opportunities.”

Jhuwon Davis and Kyle Gierman staked the Jets to a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes.

Metro goalie Andrew Kormos finished with 24 saves between the pipes, while Pittsburgh’s Joel De Simone made 38 stops in earning the victory.

The Jets are idle for Thanksgiving weekend before returning home on Saturday night, Dec. 2, to play the Wooster Oilers at 7 p.m.
