‘Complete team effort’ propels Jets past St. Louis in big road win Saturday night

ST. LOUIS – The Metro Jets played a consistent 60 minutes and defeated the St. Louis Jr. Blues 5-2 Saturday night at the Affton Ice Rink.

Jhuwon Davis and Jets captain Griffin Sawyer each recorded a goal and an assist, while Andrew Kormos (pictured) made 24 saves in goal.

“That was a complete team effort tonight,” said Jets coach-GM Justin Quenneville. “Naturally, Kormos had a solid game and was big reason for keeping the game a two-goal lead for much of the game, but our ‘D’ were solid as a unit tonight and played stingy. Our forwards did a great job of playing 200 feet tonight as well.

“More importantly we stuck to the game plan from the start of tilting the ice and controlling the speed of the game, and our three even-strength goals were the reward for it.”

Brodie Thornton, Kyle Gierman and Trevor Momot also scored and George Hansen picked up two assists from the blue line.

“Everyone on all four lines contributed, we played a 60-minute game, and everyone stayed positive throughout the game,” Davis said. “I think to keep the momentum rolling into tomorrow, we need to get some good rest tonight and we need to come with the same focus and intensity as we did today.”

Matthew Monreal and Ivan Galaguzov scored for St. Louis and Blake Bjella stopped 24 shots in suffering the defeat between the pipes.

The two teams wrap up their weekend series Sunday with a 2 p.m. EST puck drop.
