FRASER, Mich. – Louis Boudon recorded a hat trick, with two goals coming in the third period, as the Metro Jets completed a weekend sweep of the Peoria Mustangs with a 5-2 win Sunday afternoon at Fraser Hockeyland.
The Mustangs led 1-0 after the first period before the Jets tallied twice in the second and three more in the third period.
Boudon’s hat trick was his second of the season, previously accomplishing the feat as part of a 5-2 win at home over the Southern Tier Xpress back on Nov. 12.
“We played really well this weekend and kept the streak going – 41-0, it’s pretty amazing,” said Boudon (pictured). “Today, ‘Telly’ (Mathias Tellstrom) gave me two good passes and I was lucky to finish. He’s just a great player. Our new line (with Connor Inger), we have good chemistry together and we have fun on the ice.”
Stefan Boskovic added a goal and an assist, while Cam Schwartz scored a late empty-netter to seal the game.
Inger, Tellstrom and Jason Recchia all posted a pair of assists and Jake Gwillim stopped 13 shots in goal.
“We knew Peoria would come out harder and after yesterday (a 9-0 win for the Jets), I think maybe that gave them more ammo to come out to naturally make it harder on us,” Jets coach-GM Justin Quenneville. “I feel our guys responded the right way when we had our chances and the second period was the difference when we got some big saves from ‘Gwilly’ when we needed them and some big goals, too.”
For Peoria, Jack Healy notched a goal and an assist, Austin Wisely two assists and goaltender J.T. Kossakowski finished with 35 saves.
The Jets hit the road Friday night to play the Toledo Cherokee at 7 p.m. before returning to Fraser Saturday night to play the West Michigan Wolves at 7 p.m.
