Balanced offense, Kormos, push Jets past Quake, into Silver Cup final

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – For the second straight year, the Metro Jets will play for the Silver Cup.

The Jets downed the Yellowstone Quake 6-1 Saturday afternoon at Canlan Ice Sports and will play the Granite City Lumberjacks Sunday afternoon in the Silver Cup National Championship final.

“The guys played good hockey today and executed our game plan,” said Jets coach-GM Justin Quenneville. “We are excited about the opportunity again this year for the big one and we know firsthand how hard it is to get here. So we will regroup and get ready for a big tilt tomorrow. We know Granite will be tough.”

Louis Boudon and Connor Inger each tallied a goal and an assist, while captain Graham Day (pictured), Hayden Winch, Stefan Boskovic and Chas Distelrath added single goals to back Andrew Kormos’ 25 saves in goal.

Max Doner scored for the Quake and his goal at 2:35 of the second period knotted the game 1-1.

Yellowstone goalie Nick Ottenbacher finished with 44 saves.

The Silver Cup championship game is set for 2 p.m. EDT tomorrow.

Streaming of the game will be available on www.hockeytv.com.
